I love summertime

Funny story: my mom, sister, and I were shopping at the Houston Galleria a week or so ago, and I wanted to go inside Tiffany and Co. for fun. (I’ve been wanting a thumb ring for the longest time, but I just wanted to look at the pretties inside!) We were just browsing, taking note of all the mesmerizing sparkling going on around the store when a representative approached us.

He opened the velvet display box he had with him, looked at my sister, and asked, “Could you do me the pleasure of trying on some diamond rings?”

Natural reaction: is he kidding? Is this a dream?? Is this how they lure people into purchasing their rings — making them try them on and then realizing, “oh my god, I need this ring?” The rep, probably seeing our hesitant (and flabbergasted) expressions, then points at a shy groom-to-be across the counter — “It’s for him. He’d like to see what the rings look like on a finger.”

My reaction: why didn’t he ask me? (insert whiny voice here) To say I wasn’t jealous of my sister, who got to try on a 1 carat, 1.5 carat, and 1.75 carat (sparkling, glistening, amazingly amazing) diamond ring, would be outright lying. Because face it — it’s the dream of at least 75% of the female population to be proposed to and get married in their dream wedding. I “oohed” and “ahhed” as each ring was put on and then taken off with I’m sure was a big fat cheesy smile on my face. I offered my congratulations as we left the store — I can only imagine how happy that bride-to-be is/will be!

Also I have to congratulate Paola on her engagement yet again — because, you know, after doing so on Facebook, Twitter, and your blog, it would only make sense to do so again on mine. I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU. Another friend of mine from elementary school who I really hadn’t been in touch with since middle school also messaged me on Facebook a couple of weeks ago about her own engagement/upcoming wedding. Agh, so jealous. I guess it’s that time in my life where everyone starts getting married!

Current events in the world of Tamisa

I took my MCAT on March 27th and walked out of the testing center feeling like I was hit by a truck. I was actually feeling pretty confident after finishing the Physical Sciences section, but then the test decided to throw me a curveball during the Verbal Reasoning section with really weird passages. I never know how well I do on the VR section until after I see my score, so my confidence was steadily decreasing after that point. Then the Writing Sample portion of the test came up — apparently everyone and their mother (including me) used Facebook as an example for one of the prompts. I had calmed down some after that section and felt like I could conquer the last section — Biological Sciences. HOLY COW, it was seriously the hardest BS section I’ve ever taken in my life! Now I’m sitting here anxiously until scores are released, praying to the MCAT gods every single day for a decent score. I just hope I hit my practice test score average :( Until then, I have to start asking for letters of recommendation and start drafting a personal statement to begin the application process………I’m kind of nervous.

After that whole fiasco was over, I decided to indulge myself in things that I had put aside for studying for that dreadful test. I’m a somewhat transient Asian drama watcher, but I recently got into one of the cutest dramas I’ve ever seen in my life! At first, Pasta sounds like a Korean version of the Taiwanese drama Sweet Relationship starring Vic Zhou and Patty Hou (of which I was seriously bored of within 5 episodes but forced myself to finish, hoping Vic Zhou would save the series — he didn’t), but I was surprised at how quickly I began to love the series. Seriously — doesn’t this promo still scream “cute”?

For those wondering, it’s about a young woman with dreams of becoming a Pasta chef and the premier Italian chef she meets along the way. It might sound kind of lame, but the chemistry between Lee Sun Gyun and Gong Hyo Jin is so incredibly amazing that I hope they collaborate sometime again in the future! I also really liked the fact that there wasn’t really the “normal” secondary character love plot that usually occurs in all dramas — you know, where they actively try to “steal” away the male/female main lead from the other female/male lead during their blooming relationship. It was a really fun, lighthearted, feel-good watch that I would recommend to anybody who enjoys romantic comedies or is looking for their first Korean drama to watch! (If not, you should just YouTube clips of Lee Sun Gyun to listen to his voice because oh my god I’m so envious of his wife, who probably gets to hear it on a daily basis.)

Next up: Coffee Prince. I’m kind of late to the party, but I didn’t really have a desire to watch it since I didn’t find Gong Yoo attractive and I’m not really partial to Yoon Eun Hye. Lee Sun Gyun makes it all better, though!

Other news — I think I’m Asian failing most of my classes so far this semester. I find this………sad. And very disappointing. Get it together, self!

Rain rain, go away

I hate rain, and I hate going to class when it’s raining. I’ve been in university for almost 3 whole years, and I’ve spent all three of them trekking through rain days to class, effectively ruining some shoes and suffering through cold feet. I don’t know why it took me so long to invest in a pair, but after ruining my black suede boots today I finally decided to! (This purchase was also accompanied by the purchase of a new pair of black Steve Madden Bonanza boots at a surprisingly cheap price of $44 from Amazon. Hurry while it lasts!)

Hopefully they don’t disappoint. These rain boots had a 4.5 star rating on Amazon, and I paid $70 for them (more than the Steve Maddens, oh my), so I’m going to be mad if it turns out to be a bad investment. But judging from the reviews on Amazon, I don’t think I have to worry about that……..maybe. Hahaha. I have an Amazon Prime trial account, so the boots should be here by tomorrow — I’ll be sure to update about first impressions. They’re getting here just in time, because according to Weather.com, it’ll be raining all next week. Oh joy.

Other news:

  1. While I am no longer updating my Project 365 blog at my domain (I blame it on having to resize every picture, since the simple photoblogging program doesn’t do it for me), I am still uploading pictures for said project on my Flickr account. I’ll probably end up deleting everything from the former location and its data on my MySQL database server sometime in the near future.
  2. Re: Gossip Girl – is anyone else severely disappointed by the current direction the show has taken since the first season? The first 18 episodes were so good, and mostly everything else was crap. I also just currently read a huge spoiler for the upcoming episodes, and I’m even more disappointed now. SO DISAPPOINTED.
