Excuse me while I put on my grown-up pants

So here’s the thing: even though I’m 22, I still act like a 5 year old. I’ve never had a problem with it – I still re-watch (my all-time favorite movie!!) The Lion King at least once a year, I still collect and hoard stuffed animals, and I like to relive my teenage years by playing Backstreet Boys songs every once in a while.

But this afternoon, I was sitting in a movie theatre, prepared to watch Kung Fu Panda 2 next to who has to be the best boyfriend ever, surrounded by parents. And their children. We had to have been the only people over 18 in the the room without them. And while the trailer for Happy Feet 2 made me ridiculously excited, I began thinking something that made me sad: maybe it’s time to start being an adult.

Growing up is so hard :(

There’s always a kid in us! Growing up is tough, but slowly we are moving on….I know I am with my interests always changing!

Half my playlist consists of nostalgic, 90s-era bubblegum pop like Spice Girls, *N SYNC, BSB, etc. I’ve zero shame. Being an adult has taught me to be less concerned about playing a part (outside of professional settings where money is a reward). Don’t wear adult pants!

My ipod playlist consists of 90s pop, too! So my music taste is pretty much the same. It’s absolutely okay to be a kid once in awhile, I think it’s a great escape from the adult world. I play pokemon on my laptop just so I can de-stress! No shame in that. :-)

And was KUNG FU PANDA 2 any good? I was going to see it tonight.

@Kristine: I thought it was okay — it didn’t have the same charm as the first one, but it was still a decent movie. Maybe you enjoyed it more than I did! :)

I’m going on 24 and I still go to kids movies and buy things just because they’re cute. I know the shows and video games my 5th graders talked about back when I was teaching. I hated having to dress like an adult and go to work, because I didn’t recognize myself in the mirror!

I think a part of us never grows up. It’s just the age we’re at… We have an identity crisis. But you’re not alone in wanting to love “childish” things and there’s no age you need to reinvent yourself. :) If you lose interest in those things that’s fine, but luckily for us there’s no rule book saying we have to.

It’s ridiculously hard, alright! I just turned 23 the other day and I feel so freaking old :( I’m quite fond of cutesy kiddie stuff and some girls my age are into those grownup stuff. Meh. You’re not alone! I’m a kid at heart, too!

I want to see Kung-Fu Panda 2! I think there is a kid in all of us that never really grows into an adult. Even adults can enjoy such much movies…I don’t see any harm in doing so XD.

I like listening to my old favorite music bands once in a while too…consider it my guilty pleasure lol.
